Q&A with FS student Theint Hay Thi, studying online in Myanmar

Theint Hay Thi (Hazel) is completing Trinity's Foundation Studies program in Myanmar and says the environment at Trinity is positive and encouraging.

Theint Hay ThiWhat intake are you in at Trinity?

I’m in the July Comprehensive intake.

Where are you studying? 

I’m currently studying online in Yangon, Myanmar.

Why did you choose Trinity? 

I’ve been to Trinity as a scholarship student for the Young Leaders Program and have found myself wanting to attend Trinity since, and because I’ve heard that the teaching and the facilities are really good in Trinity.

What did it mean to you to get a scholarship to attend Trinity College?

It really means a lot to me and when I found out that I got a scholarship it was so overwhelming as I thought I wouldn’t get it and somehow gave up on it. It has helped me in different ways, definitely having to pay less and be motivated to study harder.

How would you describe your experience at Trinity?

It’s been a really good experience. All the teachers are friendly and it’s been good being able to meet new people.

What’s your favourite thing about Trinity College?

I would say that it’s the teachers. The teachers are just so welcoming and understanding and help me with anything I’m having trouble with.

What do you think of the teaching style at Trinity?

It’s definitely different from what I’m used to, but it is very convenient to look for lectures or notes and the environment is just so positive and encouraging.

What do you think of your teachers? 

The teachers are really patient and understanding and are ready to help at any time.

What are your two favourite core subjects?

My two favourite core subjects would be Literature and Drama. It’s really fun learning about the meaning behind phrases or words and for Drama it’s fun to interact with everyone and give a performance.

What are your two favourite elective subjects?

My two favourite elective subjects would be Biology and Mathematics 1. I’ve always loved Biology so it’s definitely my favourite and for Mathematics 1, it’s just fun to work out the calculations until I get the correct answer.

How do you think Trinity College Foundation Studies has prepared you for university studies and your career?

It has taught me how to take notes in lectures, time management and how to be active and involved in all activities.

Have you been able to make friends with other students online?

Yes, I’ve been able to make friends.

Why did you want to go to the University of Melbourne? 

I’ve always found myself wanting to go to University of Melbourne and have always heard that it’s one of the best universities to get a Biomedicine degree, so I thought this is definitely where I want to go.

What degree do you want to study at the University of Melbourne?

Bachelor of Biomedicine or Bachelor of Science.

Would you recommend Trinity College to other students? 

Yes, I would wholeheartedly recommend Trinity.
