Robyn Lea – from Trinity’s Andrew Sprague scholarship recipient to international photographer

Robyn Lea first joined Trinity in 1989, then left for a year at age 18 to take up a position in Milan as a photographers’ assistant, before returning to College as non-resident in 1991.

Upon her return to Trinity, she was the recipient of the Andrew Sprague photography scholarship, which saw her document College life throughout the year. Needless to say, Robyn’s interest in photography and design was well-formed by the time she left Trinity, and she went on to work internationally as a photographer and director for three decades, having her work published across various countries in titles like Vogue, The New York Times, Marie Claire, Harper’s Bazaar and Elle.

Robyn’s images have also featured in many exhibitions around the world, including the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney and the Vittoriano Museum in Rome.

In 2015, she launched the book Dinner with Jackson Pollock: Recipes, art & nature, and this paved the way to her becoming an author. Her latest book, A room of her own: Inside the homes & lives of creative women was released in 2021. This book showcases the homes of 20 women from around the world, including designers, artists and curators. Through her photography, Robyn captures their lives and stories, and provides plenty of inspiration to her readers.
