Meet FS teacher Harry Dao

By Emily McAuliffe

Harry Dao is an economics lecturer and has been teaching at Trinity since 2017. Here he shares some of his favourite things.

Harry Dao Trinity CollegeWhat was your favourite subject at school?

I loved all subjects at school, but my favourite was EAL (English as an additional language).

What is your favourite movie?

I’d say the Godfather (all three in the series).

Can you share an interesting fact about yourself?

Apart from teaching, I also own a company providing consultancy services to overseas businesses (mainly in Vietnam and the US).

What is a favourite teaching moment you’d like to share?

In a tutorial for a February Main class we finished a bit early and decided to play a game. Students had to go online and pick three shares that they thought would do well in the future. It turned out the whole class, including myself, picked exactly the same companies: Apple, Facebook and Amazon.

What is your biggest challenge as a teacher?

To make students see you more as a friend and mentor, rather than a teacher.

Who inspires you?

My students’ stories about their dreams and ambitions.

Do you have a hidden talent?

I can sing and cook well!
