Foundation Studies celebrates in style

The lunchtime event was held on the main lawns of the campus, known as the Bulpadock. Melbourne’s spring weather delivered clear blue skies and glorious sunshine for the occasion.

There was a carnival atmosphere with balloons, music playing through the main stage speakers and food stations spread out across the lawns. On arrival students each received lunch and a red ‘25 Years of FS’ cap.

The main stage was a vivid display of colour and sound as dancers and musicians entertained the crowd with various international performances.

As Master of Ceremonies, Richard Finch (TCFS History of Ideas Associate Subject Leader) drew the crowd into a unified celebration of the FS program.

A Welcome to Country was held by Wurundjeri Elder Colin Hunter Jr.

The College Warden, Professor Ken Hinchcliff, made an official welcome to the crowd and dignitaries.

The College was honoured to include amongst the dignitaries many of the original founders of the program, including Tony Buzzard, Barry Capp, Bill Cowan, Barbara Burge (wife the late Evan Burge) and Robert Clemente.

As present Dean of the Pathways School (and organiser of the day’s festivities), Denise Bush was proud to stand alongside past deans in attendance, including Barbara Cargill, Leith Hancock, David Prest and Denis White.

Trinity was also proud to include amongst the dignitaries two current staff who began working on the Foundation Studies program 25 years ago: Rosemary Blight and Cheng Tan.

After the ceremonial ’25 years’ cake was cut by Dennis White, the dignitaries proceeded to a lunch function in the Sharwood Room.

Back on the Bul, entertainment included a Chinese lion, international dancers and even a student-led flash mob.
