Meet Deputy Dean Anthony McGirr

By Emily McAuliffe

Our Residential College's Deputy Dean Anthony McGirr tells us how he's been inspired by Indiana Jones and about the caring nature of the Trinity community.

Anthony McGirr Trinity CollegeWhat do you enjoy most about working at Trinity College?

I love working with students and helping them make the College community a vibrant, positive place. A typical day for me might be working one-on-one with a student needing support through a tough time, then meeting a club or society to help plan an upcoming event, and finally meeting with the TCAC (our student committee) about leadership opportunities for first-year students. Every day is energetic and different!

How would you describe the residential community at Trinity?

Positive, engaged, and inclusive. No matter who you are, there’s always someone who is interested in your story and what you’re passionate about. The students and people here just genuinely care.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

An archaeologist! I was inspired by Indiana Jones. In the end I haven’t gone down that path, but one of our staff here – Jarrad the RA – is an archaeologist and I live vicariously through him.

What’s the most valuable piece of advice you’ve been given?

The less time you have, the more time you need to take. Basically meaning when life gets busy and hectic, it’s so important to take your time and focus on keeping healthy.

What is your life philosophy?

Every person has the right and the ability to achieve success, it just takes the right community and support to find what works for them.
