Parish Mission initiatives

This year we began a new program of Mission Partnerships to make connections with particular parishes in the Melbourne Diocese.

These Mission Partnerships were designed to enable a co-operative relationship between the school and specific parishes, so that we can mutually work together for the mission of the Church.

The first partnership, begun this year, has been with St Mary’s Anglican Church, North Melbourne, and the Revd Dr Craig D’Alton. Craig has been a marvellous asset to the School, as the St Mary’s Lecturer in Anglican Studies, both in his teaching and mentoring of students, as well as participation in the life of the faculty. We have also enjoyed visiting St Mary’s for Formation days.

The initiative has been such a success that we are extending this program to include at least two other parishes. Next year, the ‘St John’s Toorak Lecturer in New Testament and Early Christian Studies will be Archdeacon Bradly Billings, whose doctoral work was in the Gospel of Luke, and who has continued his research since then. The St Peter’s Eastern Hill Lecturer in Spirituality is Fr Hugh Kempster, whose doctoral work was on Julian of Norwich.

We are delighted to welcome these two fine parish priests to our faculty and to be in mission partnerships with their parishes. Other partnerships are in the pipeline, so watch this space for more news.
