'Hitler or Gandhi?' asks Gourlay Professor of Ethics in Business

The 2011 Gourlay Visiting Professor of Ethics in Business at Trinity College, Joanne Ciulla, took as her topic for this year's first Fireside Chat the concept of ethical leadership.

In a fascinating talk that ranged over the difference between ethical and efficient leadership, Joanne took examples from recent events in North Africa to illustrate the unsustainability of unethical leadership. She also shared her long-term research results on traits common to global leaders.

Questions from a capacity audience in the Junior Common Room stimulated further discussion on whether great leaders were born or bred, the taxonomy of power, and whether nations get the leadership they deserve.
