Content: The unit is designed to identify the main characteristics of Christian ministry in the context of schools and universities. The theology and methodology of Christian ministry will be explored in the context of educational institutions and contrasted with Christian ministry in other contexts.
Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this unit, it is expected that students will be able to:

  • demonstrate awareness of and engagement with a range of understandings of educational chaplaincy
  • identify key theological features of educational chaplaincy in a defined chaplaincy context
  • articulate a coherent theology and methodology of ministry for educational settings
  • critically evaluate key elements of their own ministerial praxis in educational settings.
  • 2,500-word theological evaluation of published understandings of chaplaincy (40%)
  • 2,500-word research paper consisting of either a situational analysis (for those already in chaplaincy) or a critical literary analysis (for those not presently chaplains) of an aspect of chaplaincy in an educational setting (40%)
  • Tutorial reflection, equivalent to 1,000 words (20%)
