TC alumnus takes senior gallery role

We congratulate Angus Trumble (TC 1983) on an exciting appointment.

Minister for the Arts, Senator the Hon George Brandis QC, announced today that
Mr Angus Trumble (TC 1983) has been appointed as the new Director of the National Portrait Gallery of Australia. Mr Trumble’s appointment is for five years.

Originally from Melbourne, Mr Trumble holds Masters degrees specialising in history and fine art, and has held senior curating roles in Australia and overseas. His most recent appointment is as the Senior Curator of Paintings and Sculpture at the Yale University’s Center for British Art in Connecticut, USA.

“Mr Trumble has a wealth of professional experience, high level leadership and vision,” Senator Brandis said.

“Mr Trumble’s appointment brings knowledge and drive to one of Australia’s newest national collecting institutions.”

Mr Trumble was a Fulbright Scholar at New York University’s Institute of Fine Arts. From 1996 to 2001 he worked as the Curator of European Art at the Art Gallery of South Australia. In 2003, as a Harold White Fellow, he explored Anglo-Australian relations in art history in the nineteenth century.
