A recent workshop for students from various crescent colleges started a conversation on gender and sexual diversity.
On 29 March, Trinity hosted some 50 people – representing a diverse spectrum of gender and sexual identities – in the Trinity Dining Hall to explore issues of language, power and social activities on their campuses.
According to Jack Marozzi, Trinity College’s Queer Representative (pictured), the workshop gave voice to myriad views and experiences.
‘We had a robust discussion on the gendering of social functions and sporting teams,’ Jack said.
There was a particular workshop on what to do when someone lets slip a homophobic or transphobic comment in conversation.
‘We also got people to reflect on gender and sexual privilege, and what role the different colleges can take in promoting the acceptance of diversity,’ Jack explained.
The Inter-Collegiate Queer Council (ICQC) will be looking to hold more activities during the year – from formal workshops to informal social activities.
The ICQC will also be looking at having a voice at O-weeks across the college crescent.
