Clean Up Australia Day- Preserving Our Green Spaces

On Saturday 11 March, a group of Trinity students participated in the nationwide “Clean Up Australia Day” at Princes Park.

The event has been a staple of the sustainability calendar at Trinity for many years.

Students frequent Princes Park throughout the year for sport and leisure. However, it is easy to take for granted how fortunate we are to have access to such an environment in an otherwise busy enclave of the city.  “Clean Up Australia Day” reminds students of the significance of this and engages them in the preservation and maintenance of our green spaces.

After picking up rubbish during a slow lap of the park, students assembled back at College for lunch.  \At this early stage of the year, it was a great opportunity for students, new and old, to introduce themselves and get to know others. It was also interesting to hear what students newly arrived from other places were observing about the environment and issues of sustainability in Melbourne, compared to their homes. It promises to be a great year for environmental causes across Foundation Studies and the Residential College.

We would like to thank Jane Sykes for leading the event this year as well as all the staff who assisted on the day.  Thank you also to all the students who participated.  We look forward to welcoming you to more events throughout the year.
