Artist ‘Red’ Hong Yi named inaugural FS Alum of the Year

By Emily McAuliffe

On Friday, more than 70 of our Foundation Studies alumni got together for a night of mingling and fun at Trinity College.

The event gave our past students the opportunity to catch up with their teachers and each other, and was also the perfect setting to announce the inaugural winner of our FS Alum of the Year award. The award was created to recognise the talented international students that come through our Foundation Studies program, following the huge success of our Bill Cowan Alum of the Year award for Residential College students.

The prestigious FS accolade went to Hong Yi, better known by her professional name ‘Red’, who joined Trinity in 2004. Since leaving Trinity College, Red has gone on to become an internationally acclaimed installation artist, was named one of the 11 art world entrepreneurs you should know by the Sotheby Institute, and has worked with multinational firms and the odd celebrity, including Jackie Chan.

Unfortunately, Red couldn’t join us at the gathering, but expressed her thanks via a video recording, which you can watch here.

We also profiled Red in last year’s edition of our Trinity Today alumni magazine. Read the article ‘Running Red Hot’.
