Student Welfare
Student Welfare is a fundamental component of the Young Leaders Summer School. For many students, Summer School may be their first experience of life away from home. We aim to ensure that students feel personally supported during this time, so that they are able to be actively involved in Summer School.
The Mentor Program. Each student is allocated a personal mentor that provides support and guidance to students throughout the School. Mentors are high-achieving students in senior undergraduate years. They receive specific training, and take a special interest in their students’ overall adjustment during Summer School. Mentors are resident in College for the duration of the Summer School.
Resident Staff. In addition to mentors, other staff, including the Director, are resident in College for the duration of Summer School. Students are able to call on staff or mentors for assistance at any time.
Fully-supervised Activities. All excursions – academic and extracurricular – are fully-supervised. Trained staff supervise students in the case of specialised activities, such as adventure camp rides and horseriding.
Airport Transfers. Complimentary airport transfers to and from Trinity College – regardless of arrival or departure time – are available on request to all enrolled Summer School students.
Security. The College is a secure facility, protected by a 24-hour security service in addition to resident staff and mentors. The College gates automatically lock after-hours, and students carry security swipe cards for entrance to buildings and rooms.
Students experiencing homesickness or other issues should first seek assistance from their mentor, a senior mentor, or the Director of Summer Schools. While rarely necessary, students may be referred to other College staff, including chaplains and counsellors, if required.
Trinity College actively encourages students to create
new friendships as well as care for each other as a community.
