Extracurricular Activities
All our Summer Schools feature full programs of excursions,
field trips and activities, chosen so that students can socialise and have
fun, experience non-classroom learning, and explore various sights around
Melbourne and Victoria.
Extracurricular activities organised during the Summer Schools have included:
- Camp. Students head out of the city for a fun-filled getaway, taking part in activities such as an outdoor initiatives course, the ‘big swing’, flying fox, a native animal park, and much more. Students can also stargaze, as well as sing, tell stories – or simply think – by the evening campfire
- Melbourne Discovery tours. Students explore the city of Melbourne with their mentors – including attractions such as its laneways, restaurants, cultural destinations, and more – and perhaps share a coffee or hot chocolate along the way
- Rockclimbing Challenge. Students take turns climbing and belaying at a state-of-the-art indoor facility. Not only is rockclimbing a lot of fun and very active, it is an excellent way to develop trust and teamwork
- A night at the theatre
- Exploring the Queen Victoria Market
- An Aussie bush dance (December)
- An evening at an AFL footy match (July)
- Mentor-hosted activities. Also part of the extracurricular program are activities organised by the mentors themselves, which – besides being great fun – are excellent for mixing with other students. In previous years, these have included quiz nights, scavenger hunts in the city and on campus, dance nights and movie screenings, among others
- Other excursions and activities.
Students also participate in a wide variety of field trips and excursions as part of the academic program.
Certain activities, such as rockclimbing, require students to have
the signed permission of a parent prior to Summer School. Elements of
the extracurricular program may vary from year to year – certain activities may
be substituted for
others depending on availability and suitability.
