Trinity welcomes visiting scholar Professor Cynthia Crysdale
Professor Cynthia SW Crysdale
BA, York University, MA, PhD, St Michael’s College, University of Toronto
Professor Crysdale has held the position Professor of Christian Ethics and Theology at the University of the South, Sewanee, TN since 2007. Prior to that, from 1994 onwards, she was Associate Professor at The School of Theology and Religious Studies at The Catholic University of America, Washington DC. She is a member of The American Theological Society (by invitation) and is on numerous advisory boards and national colloquiums.
Professor Crysdale’s PhD thesis was entitled: “Development as Normative: A Philosophical Critique of Kohlberg’s Theory of Moral Development Using Lonergan’s Transcendental Method”. Her most recent publications include: “Risk, Gratitude, and Love: Grounding Authentic Moral Deliberation,” in The Importance of Insight: Essays in Honour of Michael Vertin, ed. David Liptay and John Liptay (Toronto: Univ. of Toronto Press, 2007), 151-171; “The Character of Moral Value, Moral Knowledge, and Moral Debate,” in Ethics and Genetics: An Integrated Approach (Toronto: Univ. of Toronto Press, 2007), 79-89; Embracing Travail: Retrieving the Cross Today (New York: Continuum, 1999).
Barry Marshall Memorial Lecture
The 2008 Barry Marshall Memorial Lecture, entitled 'An African View on Anglicanism's current troubles', will be held at 8:00pm on Wednesday 20th August at Trinity College, Burge Lecture Theatre.
The International Guest Speaker will be Dr Esther Mombo, Academic Dean of St Paul's United Theological College in Limuru, Kenya.
Dr Mombo teaches church history and theologies from women's perspectives. She served as a consultant at Lambeth 1998 and spoke at the Primates' meeting in Brazil. She is a graduate of St Paul's, Limuru; Trinity College, Dublin; and Edinburgh University, Scotland. Dr Mombo is a member of the Circle of Concerned African Women Theologians. Her writings have been on women's issues, evangelism, HIV/AIDS, Christian-Muslim relations, and poverty in Africa.
In the Anglican communion, Dr Mombo is a member of the Inter-Anglican Doctrinal and theological commission and most recently served on the Eames commission which produced the Windsor Report.
Trinity woman is Australia’s first female bishop

Trinity Certificate Presentation at Leeton, NSW

"Is the Bible enough?" Address by The Revd Dr Andrew McGowan at St Paul's College Chapel, University of Sydney
The Director of Trinity College Theological School, The Revd Dr Andrew McGowan, will be delivering an address titled "Is the Bible enough?" at the Evensong service for St Peter and St Paul at St Paul's College Chapel, University of Sydney on Thursday 29th June at 7.30pm. The Evensong will be sung by the Trinity College Choir (see Flyer; pdf 84K)
Trinity Students ordained deacons
On the Eve of Pentecost 2006, one current (Lyndon Phillips) and two former TCTS students (Brenda Burney and Susan Jacka) were ordained Deacons by Bishop John McIntyre in the Diocese of Gippsland. Lyndon Phillips graduated in 2006 with the Diploma in Ministry which she completed mostly online under the Trinity College Theology ONLINE program. She is now undertaking a Bachelor of Theology with the United Faculty of Theology (UFT) and is the Honorary Deacon Assistant in the Parish of Sale. Brenda Burney combined part-time theological studies at the UFT in 2003 with appointments as Parish Worker, first at Traralgon, then Drouin. Susan Jacka completed her Bachelor of Theology and Master of Education and continues as Chaplain at Gippsland Grammar. Public Lecture: The Anglican Newman by The Right Revd Dr Peter Carnley
The retired Archbishop of Perth and former Primate, Peter Carnley, will be delivering a public lecture titled "The Anglican Newman" on Tuesday May 23 at 8pm at the Buzzard Lecture Theatre, Burge Building, Trinity College. Enquiries to Mrs Dorothy Dullege on 03 9348 7127.

Four graduands to be ordained Deacon at St Paul’s Cathedral
On 4 February 2006, four recent graduands will be ordained Deacon: Robyn Boyd, Hans Christiansen, Faith Johnson and Dean Spalding. The Revd Dr Andrew McGowan will be the retreat conductor and preacher for the ordination service.
Theology ONLINE program receives commendation from AUQA
In September 2005, the Theology ONLINE program was audited by the Australian Universities Quality Agency (AUQA) as part of a larger audit of the Melbourne College of Divinity. The results of that audit have just been published and we are proud to reveal that the Theology ONLINE program received the following commendation:

AUQA commends the initiative at Trinity College to offer courses in Divinity and Theology online, and acknowledges it as an exemplar for the further spread of online learning through the [Melbourne College of Divinity]."
