Residential College Accommodation
Trinity has committed itself to becoming a sustainable institution in every way. Although the upkeep and general renovation of the residential rooms is funded from our operation budget, major improvements to meet new sustainability standards will require an outlay of around $10 million, of which we need to raise $4 million from philanthropic support to complete the works in a timely fashion.
Dining Hall
The Dining Hall is central to the life of the College and needs immediate and extensive work. We plan to implement the work in stages over 3 years. The first stage is to improve lighting, heating and cooling, acoustics and provide additional space in the form of an out door cafe as well as public restroom facilities, which will be very useful for alumni events and conferences. This project is estimated to cost $3.8 million.
Current Teaching Facilities
Trinity has an international reputation for its teaching through the Foundation Studies program and its very active Residential College tutorial system. Our current teaching spaces and classrooms need significant upgrades in order to keep pace with evolving technology and educational methodology. To provide modern and appropriate upgrades to our existing facilities will require us to raise $1 million.
New Teaching Facilities
As our programs develop and expand, there will be an increased need for more teaching and administrative facilities within the College. To create a state-of-the-art lecture theatre, versatile and modern new classrooms and some desperately needed administration space, we need to raise $7 million
Staff Accommodation
One of the key elements of the Trinity Experience is the relationships our students form while at College, with other students and College tutors and staff members. Having suitable staff accommodation assists in recruitment and retention of the best possible staff. Current accommodation for resident staff at the College has fallen a long way behind what we require. To provide better and environmentally sustainable staff accommodation within the College will require us to raise $2 million.
The Grounds Masterplan
In 2009 we completed the first project in the 10 year rolling Grounds Masterplan by putting 800,000 litres of water tanks under the Bulpadock to ensure that this key asset and amenity of the College will be sustained well into the future. This project cost approximately $760,000.
The remaining phases of the Grounds Masterplan will require us to find support of $5 million over the next nine years to ensure that our grounds, gardens and heritage are made fully sustainable as a legacy for all those that follow us.
Items in the remaining phases include developing a system for water collection and storage from buildings that do not feed into the tanks under the Bulpadock, which include the Leeper Library, Jeopardy, Vatican, Dorothy, Stuart House, the Deanery, and various other small buildings and extensions, as well as the restoration of the Summer House and surrounding lawn and gardens, re-turfing of the Vatican Lawn, a complete re-landscaping of the Theological School's lawn and gardensTheological School's lawn and gardens, and the drought proofing of all of our garden beds along with a sustainable plan for planting and managing our trees.
