Staff Appeal
Dear Staff
I am writing to ask for your support of the 2009 Annual Giving program for Trinity College. Last year was a remarkable one in many ways for the College, with strong enrolments across all our programs, and excellent outcomes from both our students and staff in the work they undertook. Many thanks for all you are doing to ensure that Trinity continues to be an institution that not only commits to excellence, but in fact, delivers it.
I hope that the great work being done in all parts of the College is evident, but I would like to highlight two areas from early this year that merit particular attention:
- The Bulpadock is now green again, as we have worked quickly and effectively this year to install water tanks under it and lay drought-resistant turf over it. This work is part of important plans to ensure the long-term sustainability of the College, but also provides a basis for further projects designed to reduce the environmental impact of the College’s operations.
- This year also saw us welcome a first cohort of promising Indigenous students into the BA (Extended) program, an initiative Trinity has spearheaded, and which draws on the skill and experience of many parts of the College. The BA (Extended) sees us working closely with the University, other colleges around the Crescent, and various external bodies. Students benefit from residence at College – Trinity or another – and a suite of additional subjects designed to provide bridging skills for university success, mostly taught by Trinity College Foundation Studies lecturers. It is an exciting program with potentially far-reaching outcomes for Indigenous Australia.
These and other achievements exemplify the important work the College does. Of course, given the recent upheavals in the economy, the outlook for the future is not as certain as it had seemed during the early part of 2008. Trinity’s funding needs in the foreseeable future will rise as we seek to carry out our goals.
I appreciate the hard work and commitment that you – and indeed our entire staff body – direct towards making Trinity what it is. As members of the College yourselves, I trust that you share in our ethos and mission, and hope that you will consider joining me and a growing number of staff by making a gift to the Annual Giving program.
Yours sincerely
Associate Professor Andrew McGowan
Warden
