'We are Yolgnu'
During May 2007, Trinity was very proud to have as guests and Elders in Residence the Yolngu Senior Law Woman, Langani Marika, and her niece, the artist and teacher Rärriwuy Marika. Their visit provided many opportunities for Langani and Rärriwuy to continue their work to build bridges between their traditional world and mainstream Australia.
On 14 May, they were welcomed by the Director of the University of Melbourne's Centre for Indigenous Education, Associate Professor Mark Rose, at the launch of the exhibition 'We are Yolngu', curated by Nina Waters with the very welcome assistance of Jenny Home, Langani's sister-in-law, in the Leeper Library to accompany their visit to the College.
Later, they were the guests of Trinity's Warden, the Revd Dr Andrew McGowan, at a welcoming dinner, also attended by members of the College and University communities, benefactors, friends of the family, and leaders in Indigenous education, as well as some of Trinity's Indigenous resident students (Mark Austin, Katie Cahill, Joe Clifford, Kyle Dadleh, and Jarrah MacGregor).
