Stations of the Cross
Bishop John Bayton has gifted 15 Stations of the Cross to the Art Collection of Trinity College.
He has held numerous solo exhibitions both in Australia and overseas and as a result, his paintings are held in many collections. The labels below these images are from the accompanying text with the 15 Stations of the Cross and courtesy of Bishop John Bayton.

Christ dies on the Cross Death is symbolized in the gentle whale, groaning and travailing in the pain of Death at the hands of careless human greed. This work is a theology of redemption of all creation, caught up in the unimaginable Death of the Creator of all things. |
The Sign of Jonah Christ is laid in the Sepulchre The narrative of Jonah is the story of inner journey, down into the belly of the great fish, down into the depths of one's own being. |
Anastasis The Resurrection is depicted using images of the Paschal Moon of Sinai, the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, shorn of its fruit, the Cock which crows at dawn and the Serpent of the Garden, a symbol of Wisdom. |
