The Art Collection of Trinity College
Trinity College
has a diverse art collection that enhances the College and its
environs. The importance of the arts is evident in a diversity of collections including oriental artefacts, porcelain china and sculpture, to a contemporary art collection which is added to on an annual basis.
One of
the earliest gifts was a bust of Sir Redmond Barry attributed to Charles
Summers c.1876, and donated by Sir William Clarke in 1881. This bust is on a pedestal that was
apparently dredged from the River Tiber.
The Chapel has a rich heritage of
religious art, including a wonderful Madonna della Seggiola which was
presented to the College by Alexander Mollison c.1880.
The Dining Hall is
graced with many portraits including past Wardens and prominent Trinity women. There is also a large Indigenous painting hanging entitled Tingari ceremonies (2002) by Mantua
James Nangala. A collection of works by the Marika family from North East Arnhem Land, supports the College's commitment to Indigenous education and scholarships.
Trinity College has a comprehensive Art Database that lists more than 770 works in the Collection with images, condition reports and details. Access to the Database is restricted.
