Resident Program
The promotion of educational excellence has always been at the forefront of Trinity’s mission. From its inception in 1872, the College has sought to provide a transformative liberal education for
its students to enable them to develop the skills of critical and
independent thought that are so necessary for engagement with an
increasingly diverse and complex world.
As a residential student of Trinity College, you have access to three important and complementary aspects of this all-round education system: the academic program, the extra-curricular program, and the provision of welfare and support facilities.
The academic program provided to all resident students consists chiefly of:
- supplementary tutorials;
- access to distinguished visiting scholars and occasional public lectures; and
- formal and informal academic advice from experienced staff, including a comprehensive mentoring program.
Every student of the College has access to the Leeper Library
in the Evan Burge Building, and resident students are also able to use
the computer room located in Upper Clarke's. The extra-curricular program covers many activities run by the Trinity College Associated Clubs (TCAC) Committee, that was formed in 1934. These activities include:
- College social functions, including balls, soirees and Orientation week activities;
- debating, literary, artistic and musical competitions;
- an annual play (semester 1) and musical production (semester 2);
- sporting teams and an inter-collegiate sports competition;
- religious services in the College Chapel, including the renowned Choir of Trinity College;
- outreach and social service projects; and
- student social clubs including the Wine Cellar, Billiards Room and Film Society.
Trinity's undergraduate students also have the opportunity to submit articles to Bulpadok, a literary and academic journal published each year, and to participate in the annual oratory competition and the Wigram Allen Essay competition run by the Dialectic Society.
Student welfare, pastoral care and support are provided by a number of different means throughout the College, depending on the type of support required and the preference of the student. The Director of Student Welfare can assist with any matter concerning living in College, wether it be social, academic or personal. The College Chaplains are available for those in need of personal or spiritual guidance or encouragement. Floor tutors can help with difficulties between students and with academic issues. Residential Advisors are senior students who have lived in College for a number of years and are happy to discuss problems with students who feel uncomfortable about talking directly with a member of staff.
