Welcome to Trinity College!
Since its foundation in 1872, Trinity has been a community of scholars
with a ‘large and liberal’ view of what a University education can and
should be. The College maintains a healthy respect for both tradition
and innovation, and strives in all that it does to be as open and
diverse as befits modern Australia and an increasingly interconnected
world. As a result, Trinity is a vibrant, challenging, but also deeply
rewarding place to live, socialise and study. It is no surprise that
Trinity alumni have gone on to take positions of influence across all
aspects of public and professional life in Australia and across the globe.
Helping you achieve your full academic potential is our foremost aim,
and here you can expect considerable assistance from the College, above
all in the form of subject-specific tutorials. But Trinity also affirms
the belief that one's education, in the broadest and best sense of the
word, can and should extend far beyond the classroom, and indeed beyond
the narrow confines of ones chosen discipline. Drama, politics, music,
sport, art, journalism: the opportunity to take up new pursuits or
advance your existing interests are boundless, and—with always an eye
on managing your time sensibly—you should exploit the opportunities
Trinity provides to the full.
Do not, however, be modest about the expectations you place upon
yourself while at Trinity. Seize the chance to meet people studying
different subjects than yours, or with different religious or national
backgrounds, and find out what makes them tick. Learn more about your
own culture at the same time as you celebrate the diversity of cultures
that will surround you. If you have never been inside a Chapel, or heard
a sung evensong, or been in a play, or rowed in an eight, make Trinity
the place where you give yourself the time and space to try these things
out, even if only once! And at the end of the day don't forget the city
and surrounds that lie just a short walk or tram-ride away. Explore it,
but also consider giving something back to it in the form of community
service.
Admission to the College and
the University extends a great privilege and opportunity to
you, and it is also a great privilege for all of us who work here to
share this time with you. We are here to support you, and wish you the
very best indeed!
