Trinity College Annual Report
The College has continued to embody its traditional values while expressing them in fresh ways. There are many instances reflected in these pages, among them: a new world-class residential building, the growth of the Theological School, the flourishing of our Young Leaders Summer Schools and the College’s engagement with Indigenous Australia. The highly successful tour of Malaysia and Singapore by the Choir was another new form of a familiar activity, reflecting our regional connections and the importance of international education, as well as our commitment to the Choir’s fine embodiment of the remarkable musical tradition of the Anglican liturgy.
The sheer number as well as the quality and variety of our programs makes Trinity a unique institution among the historic university colleges of Australia, and indeed in Australian higher education generally. The leadership of these programs and of the College’s administration has been a matter for serious thought and work during 2007. To reflect the significance of the three main educational programs, the head of each is now titled ‘Dean’. The traditional role connected to the residential community is now ‘Dean of the College’ and remains deputy to the Warden.
New appointments were made or arranged for each of these three roles during 2007: early in the year Dr Barbara Cargill began as Dean of International Programs, mid-year the Revd Dr Tim Gaden was appointed Dean of the Theological School and College Chaplain, and at the end of the year Mr Campbell Bairstow was appointed Dean of the College. In addition Dr Alan Watkinson was appointed Director of Advancement during 2007. I acknowledge with thanks the contributions of Clare Pullar and Dr Peter Tregear who left us during this time.
Whether staff or students, a College is always ultimately people, a community. I believe our existence as a dynamic community of scholars and teachers is a remarkable form of University life. It is a privilege to share its leadership.
