Trinity commended for water management strategy
Thursday 22 January
The Melbourne City Council planning officer who recently issued the planning permit for the installation of underground water tanks at Trinity, commented that 'We are confident that this development will ultimately have little or no impact on [the amenity of] the College grounds. In fact they are to be commended on their water-saving initiative'.
The issuing of this permit now enables the College to proceed with implementation of the first stage of its recently developed Grounds Masterplan - restoring and sustaining the surface of the open grassed area, known as the 'Bulpadock', located in the centre of the College grounds.
This involves the installation of underground water storage tanks and a new irrigation system, followed by the re-surfacing of the entire area with drought tolerant turf.
The project is scheduled to commence on 2 March, and the area will be fenced off from then until the turf is fully established, probably about July.
This is one of a number of environmentally responsible projects being undertaken progressively by the College under its planitgreen initiative.
