Trinity’s inaugural Markwell Scholar, Peter Clark (2nd year Music), has been selected to participate in an interstate tour with the prestigious ACO2 – the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s (ACO’s) Emerging Artists ensemble.
The ensemble comprises talented young string players from the ACO Emerging Artists Program and selected core players from the Australian Chamber Orchestra. It is led by the ACO’s Principal 2nd Violin, Helena Rathbone.
Peter describes his inclusion as ‘an amazing opportunity for me’, with selection having been ‘extremely competitive and difficult’.
‘Part of my selection for the tour was due to a live solo broadcast I made for ABC Classic FM with the National Music Camp's Chamber Orchestra, held in Canberra, in January this year. Players from the Australian Chamber Orchestra tutored me for the performance and were in the audience. A few weeks later, I received a call from the ACO!’ he says.
Peter, 19, who comes from Hobart, Tasmania, started playing violin at the age of four and has attained both his AMusA and LMusA qualifications. He is a former Concert Master of the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra and last year participated in the Australian Youth Orchestra’s 50th Anniversary European Tour. Since entering Trinity in 2007, he has performed in numerous concerts and other occasions at the College.
The ACO2 will be touring regional Northern New South Wales and Queensland, 16–25 May, presenting public concerts in Parramatta, Coffs Harbour, Lismore, Toowoomba and Noosa, as well as an Education Concert in Bellingen and Education Workshops in Parramatta, Bellingen, Toowoomba, Noosa and Bundaberg.
