TCFS students 'empowered to change the world'
25 January 2008
Samantha Semmens
In the last Literature class for the TCFS 2007 July Fast Track intake, lecturer Samantha Semmens asked students to write down their answers to two questions: their chosen field of future endeavour; and the difference they see themselves making with their lives.
As guest speaker for this intake’s Valedictory Ceremony on 25 January, Ms Semmens considered the answers she had received and reflected on how the future might play out for the members of this cohort. She encouraged students to ‘have the courage to embrace what you now envisage coming towards you in your life’.

The student valedictory speakers, both from Indonesia, also referred to what lies ahead of them. Wilson Halim told his fellow graduates, ‘We have earned a Trinity education, and that means that each of us has the power to change the world’, while Gita Ayu Larasati observed that ‘We are prepared by Trinity to face problems as challenges and opportunities to contribute to ourselves and the community’.
A presentation was made to the coordinator of the July Fast Track program, Dr Tony Klemm, to mark his retirement after six years in this role and seven years as a lecturer in mathematics.
