Application Process

Young Leaders July Program 2013: 24 May 2013
Young Leaders December Program 2013: 25 October 2013 

Along with your Application Form please attach:

  • personal statement explaining why you wish to join the Young Leaders Program (approximately 300 words)

  • supporting statement from a school teacher or administrator

  • passport sized photograph

Australian applicants from schools with a Foundation for Young Australians (FYA) affiliation (who hold an Indigenous Youth Leadership Program scholarship) are asked to indicate this in their application.

Scholarships

There are a number of scholarships available for the Young Leaders programs in 2013:

Australian students

Indigenous Scholarships

This is a full scholarship for students applying from Indigenous or Torres Strait Islander descent. Students need to complete the Young Leaders Application Form along with a supporting statement from their teacher or school administrator.

Low SES Scholarships

This is a full scholarship for students applying from a low socioeconomic background. The scholarship will be awarded based on a statement of financial need (100–200 words) that has been signed by a teacher or administrator of the applicant’s school along with supporting evidence (eg healthcare card etc).

Refugee Scholarships

This is a full scholarship for students applying from a refugee background. Students need to complete the Young Leaders Application Form along with a supporting statement from their teacher or school administrator verifying their refugee status.

Applicants should demonstrate a passion for the program, strong academic performance and the desire to learn. Scholarships are awarded based on personal statement and supporting statement from school representative.

International students

The University of Melbourne, in conjunction with Trinity College, gives students from Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia the opportunity to win 50% and 100% scholarships. These scholarships are awarded to students who enter and win the annual essay writing competitions conducted in each country. Students wishing to enter the competition or find out more information should contact:
