Welcome to Young Leaders
The Young Leaders Program, offered at Trinity College, the University of Melbourne, provides students aged between 14 and 17 the opportunity to broaden their outlook on learning and study, to be inspired, to increase their confidence, to practice leadership skills and to consider their future directions. Each year more than 300 students from all around the world participate in this life-changing residential program. The opportunity to live on campus and participate in lectures and workshops at Trinity College and the University of Melbourne with other like-minded young leaders from around the world provides students a unique international experience.
The Young Leaders Program (YLP) has been developing future leaders since 2001. The program encourages students to immerse themselves in the intellectually exciting and vigorous academic streams, created by our talented academics who are leaders in their various fields. Leadership development is a keystone of the Young Leaders Program. Skills including critical and creative thinking, goal setting, self-direction, problem solving, communication and teamwork are built into all aspects of the program. To encourage future success, students are taught the ability to negotiate and influence, as well as recognising the importance of community engagement, ethical responsibility and the consequences of decisions and actions. Trinity College, the University of Melbourne, is an environment in which students who want to succeed can thrive. Students leave the programs feeling motivated, inspired and transformed. Key words the July 2016 students used to describe their experience included challenging, amazing, interesting but exhausting, more than I expected, new friendships and life changing.
