Dr Raymond Broeksteeg, BSc(Hons) Otago, PhD Monash
Lecturer in Charge - Mathematics 1
Dr Raymond Broeksteeg has been teaching Maths 1 to Trinity College Foundation Studies students since 1995. Originally from New Zealand, Raymond completed an honours degree in Science at The University of Otago (majoring in Mathematics). Raymond then moved to Melbourne and completed a Doctor of Philosophy at Monash University. Raymond's research area is Algebra.
Dr Sasha Cyganowski, BSc(Hons), PhD Deakin

Dr Sasha Cyganowski has been teaching Maths 2 in Trinity College Foundation Studies since the beginning of 1997. He has a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in mathematics and a PhD in general relativity, both from Deakin University. His research interests have been in the areas of general relativity and stochastic differential equations. Sasha’s employment history includes teaching positions at Tipperary Institute in Ireland, Deakin University, and Melbourne Institute of Business and Technology.

Mr David Collis,
BSc(Hons), BA(Hons) Monash, GradDipTheol MCD
David Collis began teaching at Trinity College in 1997 in the January Extended Program for Maths. He is currently teaching Maths in the January Extended and February intakes. David is a graduate of Monash University where he successfully completed a Bachelor of Science with Honours specializing in Applied Mathematics, and also a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in the field of Political Science. In 2004 David successfully completed a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies, which he gained at the University of Melbourne. David is currently being kept busy writing a book about the Megachurches in Australia whilst also studying towards a PhD in Political Science.
Dr Cheryl Filippe, BSc(Hons), PhD Monash
Cheryl Filippe completed a Bachelor of Science with Honours and then a PhD in Astrophysics at Monash University. While still a graduate student, she tutored undergraduate maths at Monash and began working for Trinity College Foundation Studies, teaching maths in the extended programs. After finishing her thesis in 1997, Cheryl became a permanent member of staff at Trinity as a Maths 1 tutor.
Ms Alison Fisher, CertEd Leic UK, BSc RMIT, PGDipEdStudies Melb, PGCertOnlineEd&Train Lon, MEd Melb
Alison has been with TCFS since 2001. She has an undergraduate degree in mathematics and postgraduate qualifications in education and information technology from both the UK and Australia. Her Master's thesis was on the integration of IT into a humanities pre-service teaching degree. She has taught undergraduate computing subjects in Arts and Education faculties as well as postgraduate IT and academic IT skills at the University of Melbourne. Alison also works in the La Trobe University Foundation Studies Program teaching Information Technology Fundamentals.
Mr Bell Foozwell, BSc(Hons) La Trobe
Bell Foozwell has been teaching at Trinity College since 2000 and has taught in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Melbourne. He studied mathematics at La Trobe University and is working on his PhD in mathematics at the University of Melbourne. Bell’s research is in the area of topology and geometry. He recently presented his research in topology at the University of Illinois in Chicago and the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. Bell has also written and presented Maths 1 Extension topics for interested students in Foundation Studies. Bell also enjoys bicycling, walking and playing the ukelele.
Mr Peter Hird, BEd(Sci) Melb
Peter has been teaching Maths 1 at TCFS since 1997. Prior to this he spent 30 years teaching in the state secondary system. The subjects he taught included Maths, Chemistry, General Science and Physics. Peter undertook his studies at the University of Melbourne and the Secondary Teachers College of Victoria.
Dr Bernard Leigh, BSc(Hons), PhD GradDipEd(Sec) Monash, MEd Melb
Bernard has been teaching physics and maths in TCFS since 1995. Prior to
that he was a full-time student, having started his tertiary education as a mature age student. He obtained his doctorate in 2000 at Monash University in the field of metal vapour lasers. He recently completed a Master of Education at the University of Melbourne in the area of educational management. As a result of that experience he has developed interests in the fields of leadership and strategic thinking and in the application of item response theory to educational assessment.

Mr Philip Mannes, BA(Hons) Monash
Philip Mannes has been teaching Mathematics at Trinity College since 1997. During this time he has also assisted with the Foundation Studies Tennis Club. Philip has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree from Monash University and has an interest in reading, music and tennis.
Ms Elspeth McCracken-Hewson, BSc, DipEd Melb, CertEd(FE), GradDipMgtStudies Middlesex
Elspeth has been with TCFS since 2001. She taught on the February and July intakes until 2005, when she switched to the July Fast Track. Elspeth has previously taught mathematics in secondary schools in Melbourne and London. Elspeth undertook her BSc degree at the University of Melbourne, majoring in mathematics. She subsequently studied for a postgraduate Diploma of Management Studies and then a Certificate of Further Education at the Middlesex University, London. Finally she did her Diploma of Education at the University of Melbourne. Elspeth established and runs the TCFS Chess Club. She is a member of the Victorian Institute of Teachers.
Mr Andrew Oppenheim, BA/BSc, MSc, DipEd Melb
Andrew Oppenheim has degrees in Science and Arts from the University of
Melbourne. His main subject was mathematics and in particular enumerative combinatorics. He also studied Mandarin Chinese at an institute attached to Nanjing University. For many years Andrew was a resident at International House and assisted that college with its academic program and outdoor activities. He has also worked as a sessional tutor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. Andrew’s work at Trinity has included teaching on a variety of extended, main and fast track intakes.
Mrs Barbara Trauer, BSc, DipEd Melb
Barbara Trauer has been teaching Mathematics 1 at Trinity College since January 1996. She gained a Bachelor of Science from the University of Melbourne majoring in Mathematics and later a Diploma of Education. Barbara worked as a computer programmer at IBM. She then went to London where she was a programmer at the London Stock Exchange. After the birth of her two sons, she started teaching at South London College of Further Education. She returned to Melbourne in 1989 where she was a tutor in the Department of Mathematics at Melbourne University and a reviewer of VCE Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics. Her main hobby is playing the bassoon in orchestras and chamber music groups and she is President of the Preston Symphony Orchestra.
