Trinity College Clubs and Activities
Various intellectual, cultural, sporting and social activities are available to students in the College, in addition to those offered at the University of Melbourne. By encouraging students to take a full role in College and University life, and the life of the wider community, Trinity aims to foster qualities of leadership and participation, and to encourage students to seek new opportunities to learn and grow in areas that will complement their academic formation. Trinity students demonstrate talent, enthusiasm and creativity in art, music, drama, debating, literary pursuits, team and individual sports, spiritual and religious activities, and community service, as well as enjoying and organising a wide array of College social activities. Trinity is a place to become involved, and there is a range of ways in which the College helps students to develop their talents, and to enjoy their student years.
The Cripps Middle Common Room
The Cripps Middle Common Room is the social hub of the senior students of Trinity. It is based in Upper Bishops' next to the Senior Student's tower and overlooking the Bulpadock. Like its predecessor the Cripps Room, the Cripps MCR is designed to provide a cultural and physical space for senior students in addition to the Junior Common Room, of which members remain a part.
The social life of the room includes regular guest dinners, debates, and occasional sporting and cultural outings. The annual dinner and the Cocktail Night are highlights of the Cripps MCR year.
The Cripps MCR was named for the family of Robert Cripps, a major benefactor and Fellow of the College. In 2001, a grant from the Centenary Endowment Fund and a group of past members of the room facilitated a substantial refurbishment of the room, which is now clearly the pre-eminent Middle Common Room of the University Colleges. Membership of the Cripps MCR is open to Trinity residents who have completed their undergraduate degree or are in the fourth year or above at University, but are not members of the Senior Common Room. The Cripps MCR welcomes applications for membership from eligible students. Enquiries should be directed to the College Office.
