Choir Tours
Since 1998, the Choir of Trinity College has made three trips to the United Kingdom, sung in Malaysia and Singapore and performed in the USA and Canada, with a visit to New Zealand and the USA scheduled for 2008.
In June and July 1998, the Choir made its inaugural tour of England, singing Evensong in New College and Magdalen College, Oxford, and Gloucester, Worcester, Liverpool and Bristol Cathedrals. the Choir also sang recitals in Westminster Abbey, Ely Cathedral Lady Chapel, Christ Church Cathedral Oxford, St George's Edgbaston (Birmingham), St Bride's Fleet Street and Temple Church, London and Bristol and Winchester Cathedrals, as well as at Mass in Holy Trinity Sloane Street and Ealing Abbey. The tour concluded with a recital at Australia House in London. A CD of recorded highlights from the tour has been issued on the Cherubic label.
In 2001, the Choir was invited to participate at the international Eisteddfod at Llangollen. En route to the choral competition in North Wales, the Choir spent a week in Oxford, again singing Evensong at Magdalen College, New College and Christ Church - where we were invited by the Precentor to return in 2003 and sing a week of services. The Eisteddfod was an amazing experience, with choirs participating from all round the world, and we were delighted to be placed fourth in our category. We sang Evensong at St Asaph's Cathedral (where we visited the grave of William Mathias) and from there drove on to Liverpool, where we were based for a week singing the Daily Service for BBC Radio and doing concerts in Liverpool, Blackburn and Chester Cathedrals. The next week the Choir stayed in London and did day trips to sing recitals at Salisbury (including Stonehenge), Winchester and Wells Cathedrals as well as Evensong at Sherborne Abbey and our final service at St Paul's Cathedral, where the Dean complimented us on our singing of the Howells 'St Paul's' Service!
the Choir returned to England for its third visit in June and July 2003. The tour opened with a concert in the Ludlow Festival, thence to Manchester where we again sang a week of 'Daily Service' for BBC Radio, as well as services in Manchester and Liverpool RC Cathedrals. We sang Mattins at the Temple Church in London, before heading to Lichfield, where we sang Evensong in the cathedral and a concert as part of the Lichfield Festival. Cambridge, including a workshop with John Rutter in the Trinity College chapel, was the next stop on our itinerary. We sang a lunchtime concert in the Lady Chapel of Ely Cathedral, [CD details below] then travelled to Oxford to sing the week's services at Christ Church. The tour again concluded with Evensong at St Paul's Cathedral in London.
In September 2004 the Choir made its debut tour of the USA and Canada. We flew to San Francisco where we sang a recital in Grace Cathedral - coincidentally on the same day as the Choir of Trinity College, Cambridge sang Evensong there [see photo below] - thence to Austin, Dallas and Houston, Texas, New York City, St Michael's College (Burlington, Vermont), Quebec City, St Michael's Church (Broadway & 99th, New York City) on St Michael's Day [29 September] and Boston.

the Choir's 2006 tour was to the East Coast of Australia - Wangaratta, Canberra, Goulburn, Sydney, Buderim and Brisbane in June and July. We sang in the foyer of the National Library in Canberra, ABC-FM recorded our lunch time concert in St James' Church, King Street, Sydney, and spent the final weekend of the trip singing a concert and the Sunday services in the beautiful acoustic of St John's Cathedral in Brisbane.
the Choir visited Malaysia and Singapore in July 2007 as part of a wider college mission. We performed to sell-out audiences in Kuala Lumpur and Penang, and we launched the Johor Baru arts festival in our final Malaysian appearance. We also sang at the Sri KL school in Subangjaya during the finals of an elocution contest, as well as a function for Trinity's Foundations Studies alumni and prospective students and their families (KL) and a high tea for school principals (Penang). Singapore also kept us busy with appearances at the Esplanade and schools workshops (Raffles Institution and the Anglo-Chinese (Independent) School) as well as an evening concert and the Sunday morning services at St George's Church, Tanglin.
In July 2008 the Choir will visit New Zealand - Wellington, Wanganui and Auckland - en route to the USA, where we shall perform at concerts and in services in Boston, New York, Washington D.C. and San Francisco.
