Weddings in the Chapel
The Chapel of Trinity College and Janet Clarke Hall is the setting for many weddings each year. Marriages are celebrated according to the Anglican tradition, and members of most Christian traditions are permitted to be married in the Chapel as long as at least one party to the marriage has been baptised. Requests to be married by non-Trinity clergy, or for the involvement of clergy of other denominations, will be considered happily. We would be delighted to discuss your plans at any time, but recommend that this be done at least six months in advance. Below is some preliminary information. Further details are available in the Wedding Information Booklet and from the Administrator-Chaplaincy.
The Chapel
The Chapel is an historic building that was opened in 1917. It comfortably holds 60 people in the collegiate seating and a further 100 near the west door. With additional seating, over 240 people can be accommodated. Wheelchair access is available through the Annexe. The Chapel is most easily viewed by attending one of the many services, especially Evensong at 6.00pm on Sundays during term time.
Chapel hire fees include the use of the fine organ, and the services of one of the College organists. The Choir of Trinity College is also available for hire at most times of the year for an additional fee.
Legal Documents
Although the date and time of
the marriage may be fixed well before, the legal application to the celebrant
cannot be accepted more than eighteen months or less than one month before
the wedding. Couples will be responsible for contacting the celebrant before
the wedding date to arrange a convenient time when the official paperwork can
be completed. The College also prefers couples to undertake a short marriage preparation course, run by the celebrant.
Bookings
Please note that due to College functions, weddings are not celebrated during Holy Week (the week before Easter), Orientation Week (late February) or on the College End
of Year Weekend (mid-October).
A booking form (contained in the Wedding Information Booklet) should to be lodged with
the Administrator-Chaplaincy by phoning 9348 7495. Once payment has been made and the application has been approved
by Trinity College, a 'Confirmation of
Wedding Booking' form will be mailed to the couple by the Administrator.
