For Indigenous Students
Indigenous Scholarships are provided to encourage and enable Indigenous students to study at the University of Melbourne and Trinity, recognising that the College community is enriched in every way by the presence of Indigenous scholars. Indigenous students are also eligible to apply for other Trinity scholarships, provided they meet the specific selection criteria of those scholarships.
Awumpun Scholarship (2004)
Established with the assistance of Trinity alumnus Ross Macaw and his wife Susan in honour of a special Alngith Wikwaya woman, the Awumpun Scholarship is, at this stage, a fixed term (4 years) scholarship supporting one student in particular.
Champion de Crespigny Scholarship (2000)
Established by Robert Champion de Crespigny, AC, in honour of the many members of his family who have been students of the College. A full scholarship for an academically strong Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander undergraduate or postgraduate student who will contribute to the awareness of indigenous culture within the College and the University, and will explore the opportunities for leadership in their chosen field.
Oodgeroo Scholarships (2000)
Established by Mr Roger Riordan, AM (Trinity 1951-1954) in honour of Oodgeroo of the tribe Noonucal (1920-1992). Oodgeroo (formerly known as Kath Walker) was a distinguished Australian poet. Two full scholarships awarded to academically strong Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander undergraduate or postgraduate students who will make a worthwhile contribution to Trinity.
Yorta Yorta Scholarship (2004)
Established by an anonymous Trinity alumnus, the Yorta Yorta Scholarship is provided to encourage and enable indigenous students to study at the University of Melbourne and Trinity College. The scholarship is named in honour of the Yorta Yorta nation whose people occupy the land now known as the Murray—Goulburn region. The scholarship is open to any Indigenous student from any part of Australia who is or will be studying at the University of Melbourne. A full scholarship for the duration of their course will be awarded to an academically strong Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
undergraduate or postgraduate student who will make a worthwhile contribution to Trinity. In addition, the University of Melbourne will provide an undergraduate recipient with a full-tuition scholarship by linking one of its Indigenous Melbourne Access Scholarships, which provides a HECS-exempt place at the University for four years and an allowance of $2000 a year.
