A High-performing College
A College commitment to measuring its performance against that of first-class international institutions in all aspects of its educational enterprise will inevitably place high demands on Trinity's administrative and support services, as well as on academic staff. The need for upgraded access to information technology, and to library, teaching, office and meeting spaces must be addressed, along with resources to administer new performance indicators.
The College-wide unification of some administrative and other services is recommended, and staff development opportunities will need to be extended. A skilful management of Trinity's finances and a strong focus on external fund-raising obviously requires high priority.
Trinity's central site of almost ten acres, the original 1870 Crown grant, retains much of its charm, with the grassed area known as the Bulpadock having become a treasured space within the campus. The College sees merit in concentrating as much of TCFS teaching and related activities on or near the central Parkville precinct as possible, while enhancing and not diminishing the residential amenity. Construction of the promised Education/Theology building will provide some space for non-theological teaching, but only a large education building along the southern boundary of Trinity's main Parkville precinct, a long-term but eminently worthy prospect, will afford enough space to allow all or most of the College's teaching activity to be concentrated in the proximity needed to achieve the synergies we seek. In the meantime a pressing need for additional and upgraded accommodation in the residential College suggests an element of urgency for the raising of sufficient capital funds to commence construction of the Woodheap building.
Although Trinity's fortunes will continue to depend heavily on the quality of its internal management, this in turn will owe much to informed and focussed governance and to the loyalty of its expanding alumni constituency and its many valued friends. If all of Trinity's human resources can be harnessed, the College will be well placed to attempt the scaling of new heights.
