Academic Excellence
Trinity College, from its founding, has aspired to the highest academic standards. Today, more than ever before, students need to be encouraged and assisted to fulfil their academic potential so that they will be fully prepared for fulfilling lives and successful careers in an increasingly competitive world in which their success will be determined to a high degree by their knowledge, skills, and values.
For most of its history, and certainly in recent years, Trinity College has maintained high academic admission standards and teaching programs, and recorded correspondingly high levels of undergraduate performance. It will ensure that Trinity continues to attract a high proportion of the most able and promising students and that it further strengthens the quality of its teaching and academic support services, as well as generating a vibrant research culture within the College. College tutorials and other teaching will continue to be enhanced, academic mentoring extended and the monitoring of student performance streamlined. An Academic Board will carry responsibility for the maintenance of high academic standards across the whole College.
Trinity's unwavering commitment to academic excellence is in the context of emphasis on a well rounded education - with high academic performance being combined with enthusiastic participation and high achievement in a variety of extra-curricular activities. Active student involvement in cultural, sporting and community service activities will continue to receive strong encouragement as an integral part of the 'large and liberal education' for which Trinity stands.
