Chemistry
Dr Patricia Jackson, BSc(Hons) Melb, PhD Cantab
Subject Leader
Patricia Jackson completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Melbourne, graduating with a BSc(Hons) after undertaking research in the field of organometallic chemistry. She
proceeded to research in the area of organometallic chemistry of mixed-metal clusters in studies towards her doctoral degree from Cambridge University. Her postdoctoral research interests included labelling of steroid hormones implicated in breast cancer, at the Ecole Nationale Superieure de Chimie
de Paris, and platinum anticancer drugs, at Monash University, and, more recently, synthesis of organometallic networks at the University of Melbourne. She joined Trinity College Foundation Studies in 2002 as a tutor, and then as a lecturer in the Fast Track program, although her connection to
Trinity College began in 1984, when she was a resident tutor at the College while completing her Honours year. She has tutored at Melbourne University and within the college system at Cambridge University, and her professional activities include acting as a reviewer and contributor to the Gmelin Handbook of
Chemistry
Ms Catherine Elsworth,
BSc(Hons) Melb
Cate Elsworth started demonstrating in Foundation Studies Chemistry in 1995. She then started tutoring and running the Chemistry laboratory in 1997, and she now lectures in the July Program. She completed an honours degree in Organic Chemistry at The University of Melbourne, undertaking research into the synthesis of pigments from Australasian Toadstools. She then continued on to further reasearch into the isolation, biosyntheisis and structural modification of these pigments. At Trinity College Cate is involved in the Cooking Club and she jointly runs the Film Club.

Dr Siegbert
Nickel, DipEd Melb, DrRerNat, DipChem TechniUni Berlin
Siegbert
Nickel completed his undergraduate and
doctoral studies in chemistry at the Technical University in Berlin,
focussing on lanthanide and actinide
chemistry. His postdoctoral work
included an extended sojourn at Monash University, continuing research
in lanthanide
chemistry as well as platinum anticancer drugs, before returning to the
Technical University, where he headed a small research group
investigating aluminium and gallium precursors for 3,5 semiconductors,
as well as overseeing the mass spectroscopic
and analytical laboratories. He has
taught undergraduate students at the Technical University, Monash
University and the University of Melbourne, and has completed a
Postgraduate Diploma
of Education at the University of Melbourne. He has also taught science and
chemistry in secondary
schools in Melbourne. Siegbert began tutoring in TCFS in 2004, and is
now lecturing in the
Fast Track Program.
