Trinity commemorates ANZAC Day

This week, Trinity College will mark the season of remembrance with worship and music to remember those who gave their lives in service to their country in war and conflict.

On Sunday 22 April, the Choir led Choral Evensong with music for ANZAC-tide, including Douglas Guest's evocative anthem For the Fallen, and John Ireland's Greater Love, both written to honour the fallen of the First and Second World Wars. Reserve Army Padre Canon Robert Vun gave the address, and Residential College students helped to lead worship.

A contemplative evening service on ANZAC Day, Wednesday 25 April at 5.30pm, concludes the season of remembrance. Prayers for peace and reconciliation, and prayers for all who died in conflicts past and present will be offered at the College Communion.

Trinity College Chaplain, the Revd Dr Andreas Loewe, said, 'Our worship during this next week will give us an opportunity to remember those who lived out our College motto, Pro Patria, Pro Ecclesia, by giving themselves in service of their country,' he said.

'We will remember especially the 310 Collegians of Trinity College and Janet Clarke Hall who served in the First World War, of whom 10% did not return home to Australia, along with more recent alumni, and the families of present students involved in active service today.

'Our prayer at this season is for an end of conflict, and the willingness of many to work for peace.'

Also during the season of remembrance, the Choir of Trinity College's new CD, Lest we forget: The Music of Remembrance will be launched by ABC Classics. Featuring alongside the Australian Army Band, Perth, and the Australian National Band, the CD is a memorial in music to those who have served and still serve their country in war and conflict.
