Fair Dinkum Festival Held in Gateway Bustles With Activity

On Wednesday 13 September, the bi-annual clubs and activities expo- Fair Dinkum - traditionally held on the College Bulpadock was moved from its usual location to the relative comfort of the Gateway building due to Melbourne’s wild and windy weather.

Nonetheless, this did nothing to dampen the students’ mood as the regular performances of the Fair Dinkum Festival were complimented with a range of new music and dances.

The line-up this year featured students playing traditional Chinese GuZheng, the staff Bush Band, Trinity Tiger Tones, hip hop by BOBA dance crew, the community choir including Foundation Studies and Residential College students led by Music Director, Chris Watson, and Busking Hour Club that takes place in the Gateway building 12-1pm each Wednesday.

In addition to the entertainment, students were given the opportunity to choose from 25 different clubs, enjoy the free BBQ and drinks, and mingle with other students from various intakes.

The clubs are run by admin staff and academics, students, and organised through the Student Services Department as part of the Trinity Lifeskills Club program.

Joko Horas from the Student Services team was in charge of coordinating this year’s festival, and he believes it was the ‘most memorable’ expo yet with six performances.

‘One of the highlights on the day was to be able to watch a collaboration between the Foundation Studies and the Residential College students who performed together as the Community Choir. We also had the privilege of having the Trinity Tiger Tones perform before their upcoming show at the Athenaeum Theatre on Monday 18 September,’ says Joko.

‘I would like to thank all the staff and students who have put up their hands to run the clubs this semester and also to the performers. As always, I have a very supportive team at Student Services to make this event highly successful. Last but not least, a special mention to the team from PaFS who provided outstanding assistance with our set up requests and to the Alliance Catering staff for their excellent service.’

Plans are already underway to make Fair Dinkum Festival 2018 even bigger.
