A day with a jazz hero

Matthew Nicholls, a young jazz musician who took part in this year's Juilliard Jazz Program at Trinity College, was awarded the Bruce McComish Brass Prize.

A gifted, young trumpet player, Matthew was awarded the prize based on his outstanding musical talent. The prize, made possible by Mr Bruce McComish, gives one young jazz musician the opportunity to fly to Syndey and spend a day in studio with James Morrison.

At the beginning of October, Matthew spent an unforgettable day with the world renowned musician and was truly grateful for the opportunity.

'I would like to express my thanks to Bruce McComish for giving me the opportunity to play and talk to my childhood hero for a whole day – it was one of the best days of my life,' Matthew said.

With the experience behind him, Matthew will continue to pursue his love of jazz alongside his studies.
